Screening for Plagiarism

 

JHIES: Journal of Islamic Law and Sharia Economics upholds academic integrity throughout the publication process, in accordance with the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are original works that have not been previously published, in whole or in part.

1.Scope of Screening

Similarity screening covers, but is not limited to:

  • ❧Verbatim plagiarism from other sources;
  • ❧Paraphrasing plagiarism without appropriate attribution;
  • ❧Duplication or resubmission of the author's own previously published work (self-plagiarism/redundant publication) without disclosure;
  • ❧Plagiarism of data or research results belonging to others without permission or attribution.

2.Screening Procedure

All accepted manuscripts undergo similarity screening using plagiarism detection software (Turnitin or iThenticate), with a maximum similarity threshold of 20% (excluding quotations, the reference list, and common methodological phrasing). Screening results are reviewed qualitatively by the editor rather than based solely on the percentage score, as a high similarity score may also result from legitimate citations or technical terminology commonly used within the field.

3.Investigation Procedure

Manuscripts exceeding the threshold or showing indications of misconduct will be investigated by the editor before a decision is made, including a request for written clarification from the author. If the investigation confirms a violation, the manuscript will be rejected. The editor reserves the right to take further action in accordance with COPE guidelines, including notifying the author's institution where necessary.

4.Post-Publication Handling

If suspected plagiarism is identified after an article has been published, the journal will conduct an investigation following COPE guidelines, including requesting clarification from the author and/or relevant institution. If the violation is confirmed, the journal reserves the right to issue a correction or retraction of the article concerned, accompanied by an official notice published openly.
