Publication Ethics
The Journal of Islamic Education & Learning (JoISEL) is committed to upholding scientific publication ethics standards in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All parties involved in the publication process: authors, editors, reviewers, and publishers: are required to understand and comply with the following ethical responsibilities.
1. Author Ethics
1Originality of the manuscript: Authors must guarantee that the submitted manuscript is original work, has not been previously published, and is not currently under review at another journal.
2Anti-plagiarism: Authors are prohibited from copying part or all of another person's work without properly citing the source in accordance with academic ethical standards.
3Prohibition of duplicate/redundant publication: Authors are prohibited from submitting substantially the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously, or republishing the same data/findings without clearly citing the previous publication.
4Data transparency: Authors must present the data used in the research honestly, accurately, and transparently so it can be verified by other parties, and must be willing to provide raw data if requested by the editor for review purposes.
5Author contributions: The individuals listed as authors must have made a significant contribution to the research and writing process. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all authors have approved the final manuscript both before and after the review process.
6Disclosure of conflicts of interest and funding: Authors must disclose the funding sources of the research as well as any potential conflicts of interest (financial, institutional, or personal) that could influence the results or interpretation of the research.
7Research ethics: For research involving human subjects (interviews, surveys, field studies), authors must ensure that data is obtained ethically, including participant informed consent where relevant.
8Use of artificial intelligence (AI): Authors must disclose the use of generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT or similar) in the writing or analysis process, including the extent to which such tools were used. AI cannot be listed as an author, and authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy and originality of the entire manuscript.
9Willingness to correct and retract: If an author discovers a significant error in a published manuscript, the author must promptly notify the editor and cooperate to make a correction or retraction of the manuscript.
2. Editor Ethics
1Fairness and objectivity: Editors evaluate manuscripts fairly and objectively, based on the suitability of the content with the scope of JoISEL, without regard to the author's race, gender, religion, nationality, or institutional affiliation.
2Confidentiality: Editors must maintain the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and must not disclose the content of a manuscript to unauthorized parties, except to the assigned reviewers.
3Prohibition on using manuscript content: Editors are not permitted to use information from an unpublished manuscript for personal or institutional gain without written permission from the author.
4Management of conflicts of interest: Editors must avoid handling manuscripts that pose a potential conflict of interest, including manuscripts from close colleagues, research partners, or their own institution, and must delegate the review process to another editor when necessary.
5Plagiarism screening: Editors must check manuscript similarity using a similarity checker tool before the manuscript enters the review stage, with a reasonable similarity threshold according to journal policy.
6Handling of suspected ethical violations: Editors must follow up on any suspected violation of publication ethics (plagiarism, data fabrication/manipulation, duplicate publication, etc.) fairly and transparently, referring to the flowcharts recommended by COPE.
7Complaint and appeal mechanism: Editors provide a channel for authors to raise objections or appeals against editorial decisions, and respond to them professionally.
8Correction and retraction policy: Editors are responsible for publishing corrections, clarifications, or retractions if substantial errors or ethical violations are found in a published article.
9Independence of decisions: Decisions to accept or reject a manuscript are based solely on scientific quality and suitability with the journal's scope, free from commercial influence or other interests.
3. Reviewer Ethics
1Objectivity and scientific argumentation: Reviewers must provide an honest, fair, and objective assessment, supported by argumentation based on scientific principles rather than personal opinion of the author.
2Confidentiality: Reviewers assigned by the editorial team are obligated to maintain the confidentiality of the manuscript under review and must not share it with other parties without the editor's permission.
3Prohibition on using manuscript content: Reviewers are not permitted to use part or all of the manuscript's content for personal gain, nor to publish it under their own name before the original manuscript is published.
4Declaration of conflicts of interest: Reviewers must decline to review a manuscript if they have a personal, professional, or competitive relationship with the author that could influence the objectivity of their assessment.
5Timeliness: Reviewers commit to completing the review process within the agreed deadline and must promptly inform the editor if they are unable to meet that deadline.
6Reporting suspected violations: Reviewers must promptly report to the editor if they suspect plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, or other ethical violations in the manuscript under review.
7Prohibition on delaying for personal gain: Reviewers are prohibited from intentionally delaying the review process to gain a competitive advantage for themselves or others.
4. Correction, Clarification, and Retraction Policy
JoISEL publishes corrections or clarifications (errata) when minor errors are found that do not affect the validity of the research results. Retraction is carried out when serious ethical violations are found, such as plagiarism, data fabrication/manipulation, duplicate publication, or a fundamental error that changes the conclusions of the research. This process follows COPE's retraction guidelines and is carried out transparently by stating the reason for retraction on the related article.
5. Open Access and Copyright Policy
JoISEL is an open access journal that allows readers to access, download, and distribute articles freely while still citing the original source, in accordance with the Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) license. Authors retain the copyright to their published work.
6. Reference Guidelines
This publication ethics policy has been developed with reference to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and generally accepted best practices for internationally indexed scientific journals.
